Admissions Information / How to Apply

You may apply at any time. Once all of your application materials have been received and reviewed, you will be notified of your admissions status, typically within 5 days.

Apply in 3 Simple Steps:

Complete the Form

Complete and submit the Online Application Form. If you prefer, you can complete and mail, email or fax a printed .pdf application, available here.

  • No Letters of Reference Required!
  • No Written Personal Statement Required!

Number 2

Pay the Application Fee

Pay the $60 application fee for undergraduate degree programs. There is no fee to apply to our certificate programs. If paying the application fee presents a financial hardship, please email and we can provide you with an applicable fee waiver.

Submit Your Transcripts

Submit your official transcripts and, if necessary, test scores. For students transferring from another college or university you should reach out to the registrar's office at your prior institution to request they send us official transcripts. For students with no prior college experience, please reach out you your high school's guidance office to request your transcripts be sent to us. If you hold a GED/HiSet please contact your exam administrator to request they send us your official transcripts. If you have no prior college experience but have been out of high school for less than three years, you must submit SAT or ACT scores as part of your application. If you have not taken the SAT or ACT please email to discuss alternative options.

  • If you go online and search your prior college or university's name and "transcript request" you should be able to easily find the information you need to obtain transcripts from your prior institution(s). This also works for the GED and HiSet exams.
  • If your prior institution(s) have electronic transcript sharing available, such as Parchment, Clearing House, or E-Script please have your documents sent to For documents being sent via postal mail please address them to:

  • Applicants submitting high school transcripts should reach out to their high school guidance office to request an official transcript be sent.
  • Applicants who have no prior college experience and have been out of high school less than 3 years need to submit official SAT or ACT scores. You can request your official scores be sent to us by clicking here. If you did not take the SAT or ACT please reach out to to discuss alternative options.
  • If your prior instituition has closed, you can still get official copies of your transcripts. If you're having difficulty accessing the info you need please reach out to and we can help guide you in this process.
Please Note: We cannot accept transcripts:
  • That have already been opened
  • That are attached to an email as a PDF
  • That have been photocopied
  • Via fax

Applying for Readmission Due to Extended Enrollment Inactivity

If you were previously accepted and enrolled in an undergraduate degree program at UMass Lowell and either left the University before receiving your degree or you haven't registered for courses for more than four semesters you must apply for readmission before you can register for courses.

To apply for readmission to your previous program, please complete and submit the Application for Readmission form along with the $60 re-admission fee. To apply into a different program, please complete and submit a new Online Application Form and reference your prior UML coursework.

If you are applying to a new program please note: You may need to have transcripts from other institutions you've previously attended resent to UMass Lowell, as all information on inactive students is deleted after two years.

Admissions for all of UMass Lowell's graduate online degrees and certificate programs are processed by UMass Lowell's Office of Graduate Admissions.

Applying into a Graduate Degree Program

All applicants must submit:
  • An application
  • An application fee
  • A statement of purpose
  • Letters of recommendation
  • Official transcripts
  • Official test scores, when applicable. GMAT/GRE waivers available (see waiver form for details).
  • Resume
    Required for certain programs such as the Master's in Business Administration and the Master of Science in Health Informatics and Management

Applying into an Online Graduate Certificate Program

UMass Lowell Graduate Certificate Programs provide knowledge and expertise that are vital in today's rapidly changing workplace. In many cases, graduate certificate courses may be applied toward a master's degree at UMass Lowell. Most graduate certificates consist of four courses, for a total of 12 graduate credits. This is a great way to earn a graduate-level credential on the way to earning your master's.

There is a $50 application fee for all programs except engineering and business, for which there is a $75 application fee. NO Graduate Record Exam (GRE) is required for graduate certificate programs. Credits earned from a graduate certificate may be used toward a related graduate degree with the approval of the graduate program coordinator. Students who complete a graduate certificate with a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or better in a UMass Lowell graduate certificate program may be able to waive the GRE when applying to a related master's degree. Graduate Certificate Programs must be completed within a five-year period with a minimum 3.0 grade point average and with not more than one course with a grade below B. Courses completed for one certificate may not be used for other certificates. Once you have completed all of the courses required for your certificate, please complete and submit the Graduate Certificate Clearance Form.
