Course Description

This course provides an overview of preparedness for and response to public health emergencies at the local, state, national and international levels. Students will learn about surveillance, natural disasters, infectious disease, environmental hazards, conflict and intentional events, the incident command system (ICS), National Incident Management System (NIMS), medical surge, the strategic national stockpile and other countermeasures, and ethics. Students will learn about the use of public health data for surveillance and emergency preparedness.
